EOC week 11: FInal Evaluation

This class was a very interesting class for me. At first I thought this class would be boring like social studies. At the beginning, I was not really interested of things that the teacher was talking about. I couldn’t understand anything so I read the book to see if I could recognize what the teacher was talking about. But, I still didn’t understand any of it. The couple of weeks I was in this class I was struggling but the teacher was really patient and explained everything clearly. Now I have understanding on what Patent, Copyright, and trademark and I’m really glad I signed up for this class. I learned a lot and now, I know what to do incase I get problems in all my artworks. Taking into consideration the points obtained in the above grid I think I should have at least a B grade. I missed a couple of EOC and had some late twits on my twitter. I think I did good in this class because even though I missed some works. I understood the class and actually had fun. A great class students should take because it will help them in the future when they become professionals and working in a big company. They know when to sue, and know what to do and where to go if ever they have a problem. Overall I enjoyed this class and I think I deserve a B for participating and doing works in this class. But when talking about how I understood this class, I think I deserve an A. I also think I deserve this grade because I tried all things that are required for weekly projects and finals.

EOC week 7: What legal issues concern you most?

Legal issue that concern me most would probably getting sued for works I did. In school, I usually get inspired of other peoples work. I enjoy trying to figure out how people did such wonderful work, and sometimes I don’t intend to copy it but it happens. I usually get someone’s work and modify it to make it my own. I change a lot of things that I think would make a picture or someone’s work more beautiful. I also go online and check out google most of the time for inspiration. If I change 60% of someone’s work and modify it into my own, can I still be sued? This really concerns me because I will soon work in an industry where people tend to sue whatever it cause. It really scares me because I’m just starting and when someone just sues me, my reputation is ruined and money is a really big issue. I want to know what to do when things like this happen and what to avoid so it wouldn’t. Is it bad to get inspiration from our fellow artist out there? For students like myself I have a bunch of questions that I want to get answered and this legal issue really bothers me. The tools I use is making something like photoshop, maya, etc. when used in school are also illegal when I sell my work concerns me also. Does this mean I need to buy everything in full price in order for me to get some extra cash selling my work? I didn’t know all this until I attended my business class and it was really helpful for me specially because I’m very inexperienced about this things. So I guess for now, the legal issue that concerns me the most is being sued by the works I did.

EOC week 8: 10 legal issue questions

10 questions:
1. If I copy a work a website for inspiration and modified it to the point that you can’t tell, can I still be sued (changed 60%)?
2. If yes why? And what can I do to change it to make it my own work?
3. If I work in an animation company and didn’t sign any disclosure agreement, can I use what I learned in that company to earn money on the side?
4. What is the best response to a non compete disclosure contract? (what’s the best way to handle it)
5. If I’m working with a company and came up with my own idea should I patent it or I have to let the company know my idea because I work for them or signed a contract? (who owns idea?)
6. If there’s an ownership of idea in a contract, what types of word or clause to look for?
7. How much do people charge to read a contract, or advice/interpreter?
8. Should I copyright my work individually or wait for a volume of work then copyright at the same time
9. Can you be inspired by a competitors work and use it against them, at the same time changing it into a different design?
10. If a company give you a design and didn’t know it was inspired by another company and you didn’t know anything about it, can you still be sued?

EOC week 6: Illicit what you think?

What do I think about Illicit? I think it is wrong for people to sell fake medical supplies, drugs, fake handbags, etc. I was watching this movie the other day in the Philippines where families are selling their kidneys to get money for their family. The guy sold his kidney for 10,000 pesos which I think is about 2 thousand dollars. Sometimes I really don’t blame them from doing these things because it is their job to feed their family and if they don’t work, they don’t have anything to eat. Would you rather steal, or rob than to work? I understand how illegal selling fake stuff but what if this is the only option they have because they can’t find a really good or decent job? Would you still stop them? From what I see, authorities can try to stop people doing illegal stuff but with the economy going down, I don’t think you can really do anything about it. You can try to stop them, but more and more people will still do the same because they want to eat and get food for their families. I think that the economy really affects what is going on around the world. Example is in China. China is a country that lacks jobs, very poor, and poverty growing rapidly. People can try to stop them once or twice but they won’t stop to sell fake stuff because that’s the only thing they do. I guess for me, I am not for illicit, but I am not also against some of it. If the government do something about employment, I think that everything will change but from what I see, government really don’t care about what’s happening around the world that’s why people are forced to do illegal things.

EOC week 3: Jeopardy

Build in the game Jeopardy is a quiz game featuring different types of category. It is an answer and question show where contestant are given clues in the form of answer. It starts with numbers from 100 being the easiest questions till 500 as the hardest questions. The contestant has to press the buzzer as fast as they could so they answer the question first. If a contestant answers the question, he get points or on national television money. If the contestant answers the question wrong he gets minus points or money. Two examples of Trivia questions in the books are: “When an idea, design or expression does not belong to anyone under the patent laws, it is said to exist in the public domain and may be used by anyone for any purpose without permission for its originator or author. Any invention that is published, put in public use, sold or placed on sale more than one year prior to the filing of a patent application. Answer: Public Domain. Another sample question is “The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) assigns numbered classes and subclasses to inventions for the purpose of classifying patents issued on them and facilitating retrieval of these patents in the course of a patent search.” Answer: Classification of Patent. Jeopardy is a really fun game usually use in television for any types of age. It is usually classified as Math, Science, History, Arts, and Sports. This game was created by Merv Griffin in 1964. In class we are creating a jeopardy game where we the students make our own questions and let our other fellow students answer the question. Sounds like a fun game. We’ll find out how it goes next week 

EOC week 1: About Me

Drawing and Painting has always been my passion. I enjoy all the aspects of art and this is where my passion started. I am now majoring in Media Arts and Animation and hoping to get a good career in the animation business. I like learning new things and working with other people to improve myself and learn from the professionals hoping one day I become one of them too. I definitely would like to work in big companies and become a professional animator someday. I think that everyone is able to accomplish things as long as they put their minds, and hearts in something they really love and as for me, animation is something I would like to do when I graduate. Animating also became a fun hobby for me. Being able to draw and be given the opportunity to learn is a big accomplishment for me. I feel lucky and fortunate to be here in school and gather different information that I can use in the near future. I can say that entering in this major made me better. I learned to manage my time wisely, to work with other people, and enjoy all the works in the animation program. I learn new things everyday which make this program so interesting and worth it. I love being in school, and learning new things. Media Arts and Animation is a really hard but fun major that I really recommend to others who enjoys art.

EOC week 2: What do you think about lawyers?

I’ve met a bunch of lawyers before and mostly all of them are the same. They start with being really nice to you explaining things and promise they would help you who in some cases do but at the same time they won’t help unless you have money to show for it. Some are really hard to talk to and if you call them nonstop will get irritated and just ignore you. I guess some are different. Not all people are the same and others are probably willing to help out without giving you a hard time. For my experience, I dealt with some lawyers that was very helpful and became really good friends with the family. You can always ask people with advice but I think when you have lawyers, when you represent yourself in court, etc. you would not look like a fool in front of other people. I guess you could say lawyers are expert in giving advices in all kinds of situations and it is better to consult them when needed. Especially when you are a type of person who does not really know about any legal rights or just came from a foreign country who doesn’t understand anything, it is best to ask an expert for help which is finding a good lawyer who will be willing to help. It never hurts to talk to a lawyer, you can get free consultation which is really a good thing but some actually ask for payments by hours. Overall, I believe there are lawyers out there that you can trust but you really need to look for them. Do not trust anyone easily unless you think they can be trusted because they will just ask you for money and that means, bad for you.
